I. OVERVIEW

II. Measurement method:
The mixture of water sample, potassium dichromate digestion solution, silver sulfate solution (silver sulfate can be added as a catalyst to oxidise straight-chain fatty compounds more effectively) and concentrated sulfuric acid is heated to 165°C. The dichromate ions oxidise the organics in the solution and the colour changes, and the analyser detects this colour change, and converts this change into a COD value to be outputted, and the amount of dichromate ions consumed is equal to the amount of oxidisable The amount of dichromate ions consumed is equal to the amount of oxidisable organic matter, i.e. COD.
